Institute Profile: TERI University, New Delhi
Located in Delhi, India, TERI University is dedicated to providing the most advanced education and training in Sustainable Development, Energy Studies, Biosciences, Environmental Studies, Management and Public Policy. TERI University’s masters programmes are specially designed to address the challenges of sustainable development in each stream and drive rational future action. The University uses modern pedagogical tools for teaching, which are richly supplemented by field visits, live industry projects and hands-on applications.
TERI University was established in 1998 and recognized as a Deemed University in 1999 by University Grants Commission and notified vide Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of Education, Government of India, Notification No. F 9/19/95-U-3 dated October 5, 1999.
The genesis of TERI University is rooted in the comprehensive research, consultancy and outreach activities of TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute, formerly known as Tata Energy Research Institute). The relationship with TERI has propelled and influenced the evolution of the University’s academic units. This relationship is enshrined in a Memorandum of Understanding between the University and TERI, wherein the two have agreed on collaborative research and programmes, joint studies and mutual support for seminars, symposia and conferences. The relationship has also helped the university procure quality placements for the students in various reputed organizations.

The TERI University campus was inaugurated by Her Excellency, The President of India, Shrimati Pratibha Devisingh Patil on 11th September 2008.
TERI University’s Board of Management is responsible for its overall administration and control. The Academic Council, chaired by the Vice Chancellor, decides the academic policy of the University, approves the curriculum, courses, and examination results, and appoints committees to look into specific academic matters arising from time to time. The Finance Committee renders financial advice. In addition to these, other committees have been constituted to aid the University’s administration. Till 2009, an Advisory Committee under the chairmanship of a nominee of the University Grants Commission advised the University on matters related to its academic planning and growth.
The campus is a modern ‘green’ building. Besides passive energy saving architectural designs, the building boasts of the use of solar energy and an earth-air tunnel to meet part of the air-conditioning requirements. Other features such as thermal mass storage are also used.
The Library at TERI University supports the academic and research programmes of the University by meeting the information requirements of students, researchers, scientists and institutions in India and globally. The library’s resources and services are also offered electronically. It provides CD-ROM collections of bibliographic, statistical resources and access to scientific information and databases.
