Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited-Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (RINL-VSP) won ‘IIM National Sustainability Award 2011’, first prize amongst the integrated steel plants in the Iron and steel sector, organized by the Ferrous Division of Indian Institute of Metals.
The award was presented by Shri P. K. Misra, Secretary (Steel), to Mr. A. P. Choudhary, CMD of RINL, at a function during the 49th National Metallurgists Day (NMD) on November 14 at Hyderabad. Shri Umesh Chandra, Director (Operations) for RINL, was also present at the event.
RINL won this award based on the performance and achievements accomplished during 2010-11.
On the production front, RINL-VSP achieved capacity utilization of 113 per cent, 114 per cent and 116 per cent in Hot Metal, Liquid Steel and Saleable Steel respectively. Production in all major units exceeded 100 per cent of rated capacity for the tenth consecutive year. Value added production w.r.t. saleable steel is 79 per cent and is the best since inception. On the financial front, RINL registered a record turnover of 11,517 crores during 2010-11.
Sri A. C. R. Das, Industrial Advisor to the Ministry of Steel, Shri M. Narayana Rao, President of IIM and Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI), Dr. Malakondaiah, Director, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, and Shri H. M. Nerurkar, Managing Director of Tata Steel and Vice-President of IIM, also graced the function.
