Job Description

UTZ Certified is looking for a national representative who is able to coordinate the activities for the UTZ Certified program in India. The representative reports to UTZ Certified in The Netherlands.

UTZ Certified works together with major stakeholders from industry, government and civil society to achieve a more sustainable sector for coffee, tea and cocoa. You work on scaling up UTZ certification with UTZ colleagues, international and local partners. You create and maintain partnerships for training, financing, input supply. You should be a pragmatic, credible and inspiring ambassador towards all stakeholders in the sector.

You would have the following responsibilities:

1. Promote the UTZ Certified program and related good practices

  • Represent UTZ Certified program to commercial domestic enterprises
  • Represent UTZ Certified program to stakeholders in the supply chains

2. Maintaining strong market linkage

  • Liaison for local producer organizations, traders and processors
  • Facilitate client visits, press trips, market events
  • Provide supply information; ensure the flow of information to home base

3. Broaden the implementation capacity for UTZ certification in the field

  • Creating and maintaining a network of trainers
  • Creation and distribution of relevant tools

4. Building government acceptance and support

  • Participate in regional & national platforms for sustainable production

5. Supporting the assurance system

  • Monitoring and improving the quality of implementation and certification
  • Co-organize training of trainers
  • Ensure workability of traceability in local context

6. Project development and execution

  • Proposal writing and fundraising

7. General strategic and operational planning and financial management

Job Specifications
  • Master’s degree, preferably in relevant field such as Agronomy, Development
  • Economics, Environmental Science, or related
  • Minimum 8 years of work experience, minimum 3 years in a related field
  • Self-starter and strong initiator in a group
  • Credible ambassador, communicative, connector with inter-cultural skills
  • Experience in coffee and/or tea supply chains
  • Experience in program design, management and evaluation in an international (development) context
  • Inspired by the interaction between trade and rural development – preferably experience with agricultural certification schemes or multi-stakeholder processes
  • Fluency in English, verbal and written
