WWF is looking for a REDD+ Policy Director, WWF Forest & Climate Initiative (FCI) to lead on WWF global REDD+ policy analysis, strategy and advocacy.

Responsibilities: 

• Global Policy Advocacy – Leads on the development of FCI global policy advocacy strategies on WWF’s REDD+ priorities (drivers, finance, safeguards, reference levels & MRV), in coordination with offices in the WWF network, to speak as “one global voice” in international REDD+ policy processes (UNFCCC, REDD Plus Partnership, Forest Investment Programme, Forest Carbon Finance Facility, UN-REDD and other multilateral initiatives).
• Policy Analysis – Has an expert view on the state-of-the-art on the key REDD+ global policy priorities and processes. Updates this view continuously as the complex field of REDD+ further evolves, in real time, and is able to analyze and identify priorities for WWF within this dynamic and emerging subject area. Actively seeks views internal and external to WWF about emerging REDD+ frameworks and processes for international and regional opportunities, as well as innovative approaches to make REDD+ work for people and nature. Develop relations with relevant news, online and social media.
• National Policy Assistance – Provides REDD+ policy assistance when needed to WWF national offices (NOs) in priority developed countries (Germany, France, Norway, UK, US, others) in order to influence national governments to commit and upscale support for REDD+ finance, especially in the interim period while an international REDD+ mechanism is being defined.
• Global Policy Research, Capacity and Communications – Supports the Managing Director of Global Policy & Finance in the development of REDD+ global policy research agendas and partnerships with science-based research institutes.

Duration: 01 August 2012 – 01 August 2013 [with possibility of renewal]

Reports to: Managing Director, Global Policy and Finance, Forest & Climate Initiative (FCI)

Required Qualifications:

• Masters Degree or equivalent in a relevant field (Environmental Policy or Sciences, Political Science, International Conservation, Tropical Forests and Land Use, etc.)
• At least 8 years of relevant work experience (International Environmental Policy, International Forestry, REDD+, or Tropical Conservation)

Required Skills and Competencies:

• Proven leadership in international advocacy and lobbying, including the effective development, coordination and communication of advocacy positions
• Proven ability to work effectively as a member of an international, cross cultural team, across multiple time zones and language abilities
• Analytical skills with proven ability to strategize, plan, and coordinate within complex and dynamic processes and institutional settings
• Strong communication skills and proven ability to translate complex issues into concise and communicable messages for non-expert audiences
• Demonstrated ability to work in an international environment
• Able to work as an integrated member of a virtual global team, as well as to work independently with minimal supervision
• Fluency in spoken and written English a must
